I Overthink Every Outfit, So You Don’t Have To | 02
Dressed to impress—until the siren call of sweatpants wins again.
Let’s round up this week’s outfits! I tried to really focus on using pieces from my closet that I already own. There are things I’m pulling out of my storage bins that I literally never expected to wear again. This is why sometimes us hoarders win in life. We can’t part with “out of style fashion,” so we hoard it until it comes back into style. Winning.
Monday: I love this dress! I had to dress a little more formally for work today, so I knew this was the perfect choice. I've worn it for the holidays and now well into the spring. Today, someone gave me such a sweet compliment on it. I can’t stop laughing and replaying the interaction over and over in my head. I responded to her compliment with, “Thanks, it’s very funeral-chic.” We chuckled and moved on with our day.
Later on my walk, I just started laughing thinking about it. I have two usual go-to responses when someone gives me a compliment. The first is saying something awkward back—like “funeral chic” when I wear a black dress. Once, I wore an orange dress, and when I received a compliment, I told everyone I looked like a prison inmate. I always feel the need to make fun of myself before someone else possibly beats me to the punch.
The second is blurting out a TMI statement like, “It’s from Target!” or “It has pockets!”—then immediately shoving my hands in said pockets and doing a strange little dance. This will be my area of improvement. I went for a walk in the afternoon and captured my fancy athleisure outfit as well.

Tuesday: Hear me out—J.Crew walked so Sézane could run.
If you have no clue what that means, let me briefly explain. This blouse I’m wearing is J.Crew circa 2021, and it’s nearly identical to one of the Sézane blouses I keep seeing everywhere—for a pretty penny.
Since ruffles are back, I decided it was time to dig this beauty out of storage. That meant asking my husband (for at least the fifth time this week) to take out the clothing bins. I’m still not sure why he keeps obliging, but I’m not questioning it (nor should you when you see us out). The trousers are old from Madewell, but there are plenty of other brands that offer the same color and look. Honestly, I love my Amazon trousers even more than these old Madewell ones.

Wednesday: Is there anything a black blazer can’t do? Seriously. This is my absolute favorite and most versatile piece of clothing.
Feeling down? Throw on a black blazer, and suddenly, you’re a local fashion icon.
Need to look put together in five seconds? Boom—black blazer. Now you’re effortlessly chic. Want to trick the entire world into thinking you have your life together, pay your bills on time, and drink water like a responsible adult? Black blazer, baby. Immediately takes a sip of water.
It’s like a confidence-boosting, life-organizing magic cape. For an easy, polished look, I throw on a white tee, an oversized blazer, jeans, and loafers—and just like that, it’s a very “my ‘stuff’ is together” kind of day.
The only drawback is that every time I wear my favorite mood-boosting black blazer, SOMEONE never ceases to amaze me by saying (knowing full well that it's neither the case nor true), 'Do you have a job interview today?'"
I usually pair mine with jeans, but this spring, I’m excited to style it with dresses, A-line skirts, and even trouser shorts.

Thursday: I had to run to an appointment today, so I wanted a more casual look. I paired this ribbed bodysuit with my favorite wide-leg denim jeans. As usual, I used my black ballet slippers to add a bit of elegance. But…….I was cold. I really should’ve checked the weather because my shoulders felt like icebergs all day. Luckily, I had my sherpa jacket, but I can’t exactly walk around inside looking like a fuzzy, warm Polar Bear. I am NOT making fun of my sherpa; it is GOAT status, but I do not think it’s meant to be worn as your “top” in a workplace. It’s a jacket, not a cardigan, people.

Friday: Friday was a little busier than usual, hence the more formal attire. I love these Amazon trousers (I even got two random compliments on them while out and about—yes, I immediately overshared that they’re from Amazon and have pockets). I paired them with a grey sweater and a black belt and shoes.
I try to loosely follow a “fashion” rule—either one I made up in my head or saw an influencer post about—the three-color rule. The idea is to keep each outfit within three major colors: #1 brown pants, #2 black belt and shoes, and #3 grey sweater.

That’s all the fun and excitement for this week! I’ve received a lot of requests to do a post on styling spring dresses, and that will most likely be on its way sometime this week. Who am I kidding? It will be available Wednesday because I’m a creature of habit, and I do not like changing my ways. Please take the poll at the bottom of this post to help me make selections that are within your budget!
